A MOTION TO APPOINT A FIVE-MEMEMBER CHARTER REVIEW BOARD, PURSUANT TO SECTION 907 OF THE CITY'S CHARTER.

BACKGROUND:
Pursuant to the City Charter, the Charter Review Board is mandated to meet every five (5) years and it was convened last in 2010.  Also, pursuant to the Charter, the Board appointments are to be made in January of the convening year, and the members shall consist of five (5) electors of the City, one from each District, holding no other office or employment of the City except for advisory boards.  The Board shall have ninety (90) days to complete its work and submit any alterations, revisions, or amendments to the City Commission.  Thereafter, the Commission is bound to submit the recommendations to the electorate no later than the next succeeding general election, which is scheduled for November, 2016.  Further, the Commission discussed the appointment of a member for District "E" at its October 9, 2014 City Commission meeting wherein it was decided that Acting Mayor Tooley should make the nomination for appointment of members for both her own District ("A") and that of former Mayor Aronson's District ("E").
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to following its Charter and providing for updates to the Charter via the method prescribed therein.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval.
