A MOTION TO APPROVE A SINGLE SOURCE PURCHASE OF WATER METERS AND ASSOCIATED APPURTENANCES FROM FERGUSON ENTERPRISES, LLC.

BACKGROUND:
The City has an annual meter replacement program to replace aging and broken water meters. Ten years ago, the City changed its water meter brand from Sensus to Neptune, following inventory and service issues. At that time and going forward, a decision was made to use Neptune brand water meters because of cost, inventory, ease of maintenance, and serviceability.
DISCUSSION:
The City is currently looking into newer technology including Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Upgrades to new technology may take approximately three (3) years. During this time, the City will lose revenue if the meters are not replaced because they become less accurate as they age. Until a selection is made on the newer technology type, it would be prudent to stay with the current brand, Neptune, as it is able to be upgraded to accept the new technology. Ferguson Enterprises, LLC is the exclusive provider of Neptune brand water meters in the State of Florida. Water meter purchases will not exceed the annual allocated amount budgeted for Fiscal Year 2023.
