body

BACKGROUND:

Since its inception in 2010, Small Business Saturday has illuminated the significance of supporting small, independently-owned businesses across the country. Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it's a day dedicated to supporting the diverse range of local businesses that help create jobs, boost the economy, and keep communities thriving across the country. Small Business Saturday is celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which will be celebrated on November 30, 2024 this year.

In 2023, 716 elected officials in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories championed Small Business Saturday. Below are some highlights of last year’s efforts:

U.S. consumers reported spending an estimated $17 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday.

Sixty-one percent (61%) of shoppers strongly agreed that they found a small business or independently owned-restaurant on Small Business Saturday where they are likely to return and become a regular customer.

Eighty-six percent (86%) of shoppers made purchases in-store, and more shoppers (53%) reported shopping online at small businesses than online at large retailers (34%) on the day.
