A MOTION TO APPOINT A NEW VOTING MEMBER FOR DISTRICT 2 ON THE BROWARD METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (BMPO) BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

body

BACKGROUND:

The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMPO) was established in 1977 by the Florida Legislature to direct urban transportation planning and the expenditure of federal and state funds. It is the lead agency responsible for developing and administering plans and programs to maintain eligibility and receive federal funds for transportation planning and funding allocations in Broward County.

The Board of Directors is comprised of 25 members and 13 alternate members divided into districts, with Coconut Creek having one voting member in District 2.  The board members are appointed by the governing body of the city represented.

On February 14, 2013, the City Commission appointed Commissioner Mikkie Belvedere to serve as its BMPO representative, where she has since served exemplarily.

The responsibilities of the board member include:

                     preparing for and attending the monthly BMPO Board Meetings;

                     serving on BMPO Committees, as designated;

                     electing BMPO Officers annually;

                     voting to approve core product and policies;

                     advocating for public outreach/education; and

                     keeping his/her city officials advised about BMPO transportation matters.
