BACKGROUND:

Senate Bill 954 (2025), recently passed and requires local governments to implement certain procedures for handling and processing reasonable accommodation requests before the statute’s effective date of January 1, 2026. The City of Coconut Creek desires to amend its Code of Ordinances in order to update procedures for handling and processing requests for accommodation from the City’s Land Development Code to be consistent with the new law.

DISCUSSION:

The proposed ordinance amends the City’s Land Development Code to update its procedures for handling and processing requests for accommodation, specifically related to the allowable timeframe for review. This ensures the City’s compliance with state law, the Fair Housing Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this ordinance. The Planning and Zoning Advisory Board is scheduled to consider this amendment at its November 12, 2025, Board Meeting.
