A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE JUSTICE ASSISTANCE RESIDUAL FUNDS GRANT (JAG) TO PURCHASE THIRTEEN P-25 COMPLIANT PORTABLE RADIOS AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED AGREEMENT WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT (FDLE) FOR THE USE OF THE GRANT.

BACKGROUND:
The City applied for and was awarded the Justice Assistance Residual Funds Grant from FDLE in the amount of $100,000. Grant funding will be used to purchase thirteen P-25 compliant portable radios to be used as a supplement to officers’ current mobile radios providing a much-needed upgrade in the Coconut Creek Police Department’s (CCPD) wireless communications capabilities.
DISCUSSION:
To further ensure the safety and protection of Coconut Creek residents, the CCPD will utilize the grant funds to purchase thirteen P-25 compliant portable radios, which will supplement officers’ current mobile radios. They will provide officers with the ability to establish and maintain effective communications with CCPD personnel and other public service agencies across their jurisdiction.

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
