BACKGROUND:
Suicide is a national epidemic costing the lives of over 40,000 Americans each year. In the State of Florida, the number of suicides outnumbers the number of homicides.
The City wishes to recognize September as “Suicide Prevention Awareness Month” in support of community education and to raise awareness of the signs that may lead to suicide and actions that may prevent suicide. The City recognizes community programs such as the League of Women Voters of Broward County Gun Safety Committee, which established the Lock It Up! Gun Safety Program to help prevent suicide by firearms.
