BACKGROUND:
The Broward Reads campaign is a collaborative initiative between community stakeholders, including the School Board of Broward County, Broward County, the Children’s Services Council of Broward County, and the United Way of Broward County. It focuses on four critical areas, including school readiness, chronic absenteeism, family engagement, and preventing the summer learning loss to ensure Broward County’s children are reading at grade level.
The Broward Reads campaign is partnering with cities within Broward County to demonstrate a collaborative approach to making grade level reading a priority within the various communities and Broward County. Cities that become a Broward Reads City commit to supporting the campaign, identifying key community stakeholders to make improvements in early literacy, and designating a City liaison to attend six meetings per year of the Broward Reads Campaign for Grade Level Reading Coalition.
In addition to the Proclamation, attached is the Broward Reads informational flyer, as well as a document detailing Coconut Creek programs that support the Broward Reads Campaign.
