A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING BROWARD COUNTY AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONTINUE DEVELOPMENT OF A SIDEWALK/SHARED USE PATH LINK ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF COPANS ROAD WITHIN THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK, FROM JUST WEST OF NW 36 AVENUE TO APPROXIMATELY 420 FEET EAST OF NW 36 AVENUE.

BACKGROUND:

The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), has a robust implementation program to construct transportation projects that improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.  FDOT is responsible for overseeing all of the phases of project implementation, from design to construction, on behalf of the Broward MPO and local partners. This collaborative effort has resulted in a $200 million transportation investment over the next five years, making our streets safer for residents and visitors.

DISCUSSION:

FDOT is working directly with Broward County on this project because it is wholly within the county right-of-way.  Nevertheless, as part of the public outreach, both Broward County and FDOT want to make sure that the City supports the project and that the City will stay involved in the design of the project.  A public information meeting has been scheduled for December 6, 2017, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Community Center to answer questions regarding the project.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
