BACKGROUND:

Since its inception in 2010, Small Business Saturday has illuminated the significance of supporting small, independently owned businesses across the country. Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it's a day dedicated to supporting the diverse range of local businesses that help create jobs, boost the economy, and keep communities thriving across the country. This year, Small Business Saturday will be celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2021.

In 2020, more than 700 mayors and city officials joined together to support Small Business Saturday. Below are some highlights of last year’s efforts:

U.S. consumers reported spending a record high total of an estimated $19.8 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday.

97% of shoppers recognize the impact they can make by shopping small, and 85% of them also encouraged friends and family to do so.

56% of Small Business Saturday shoppers reported they shopped online with a small business on the day, and increase from 43% in 2019.
