AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY’S CODE OF ORDINANCES TO REPEAL AND REPLACE THE NAME OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, DEVELOPMENT SERVICES, AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WITH RESILIENT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT THROUGHOUT THE CODE IN ORDER TO PROVIDE FOR HOUSEKEEPING CLEANUP OF THE CITY’S CODE OF ORDINANCES. body

BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek has historically used several different names for the department responsible for planning and development activities. The department was originally known as Community Development, later renamed Development Services, and subsequently redesigned as the Department of Sustainable Development. Over time, numerous provisions within the City’s Code of Ordinances have continued to reference these former department names. These outdated references appear across multiple chapters and sections of the Code, creating inconsistency and reducing clarity for staff, residents, and the public. To maintain an accurate and cohesive Code, the City has determined that these references should be updated to reflect the department’s current name, Resilient Design and Development.

DISCUSSION:

The purpose of this ordinance is strictly administrative in nature. It provides for the housekeeping cleanup necessary to ensure that all references within the City’s Code of Ordinances accurately reflect the current departmental name, Resilient Design and Development. The amendments do not alter the duties, authority, or operational responsibilities of the department; rather, they serve to align the Code with the department’s existing organizational structure. Updating these references promotes consistency, enhances public understanding of the City’s development functions, and ensures the Code remains clear, accurate, and up-to-date.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this ordinance.
