A PRESENTATION BY THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF BROWARD REGARDING PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT PHILANTHROPIC INITIATIVES.

BACKGROUND:
At the January 22, 2026 City Commission Workshop, the topic of charitable donations and the process for funding nonprofit organizations was discussed. The Commission determined that any final decisions regarding nonprofit funding through the budget would be postponed until there was more clarity about property tax reform. While the situation regarding property tax reform remains unresolved, the Commission directed staff to gather more information about a potential partnership with the Community Foundation of Broward, which was introduced as an alternative option for nonprofit funding.
The Community Foundation of Broward is a local philanthropic organization that collaborates with individuals, organizations, and public agencies to create customized charitable funds. More recently, the Foundation has emerged as an opportunity for local government to establish a permanent source of support for local nonprofits. During the upcoming presentation, representatives from the Community Foundation of Broward will outline partnership opportunities to create an endowed charitable fund specifically for Coconut Creek. They will explain how the fund will operate, discuss its parameters, and be available to answer any questions from the Commission.
Given that property tax reform remains uncertain, staff is not requesting any action on this item at this time. The presentation is intended solely for informational purposes. Nonetheless, staff recommends that the option of partnering with the Community Foundation of Broward be seriously considered as the budget process moves forward, ideally with clarity from the Legislature.
