AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ANNEXATION OF PROPERTY OWNED BY MG LEHIGH ACRES HOLDING LLC INTO THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK.  (QUASI-JUDICIAL) (SECOND READING)

body

BACKGROUND:

This item was introduced on First Reading at the September 10, 2015 City Commission meeting; however, the applicant was not present at the meeting, therefore the First Reading of the item was tabled to a date certain of Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. This item was passed on first reading on September 12, 2015.

The Broward County Legislative Delegation has established a goal of annexing all unincorporated areas of Broward County into a suitable municipality.  The City desires to annex certain property contiguous to the current boundaries of the City, and the owner, MG Lehigh Acres Holding LLC, has submitted a petition to voluntarily annex its property into the municipal limits of the City.  The area is efficiently served by the City, and would eliminate the requirement of Broward County to provide municipal services to widely scattered pockets of unincorporated areas.

DISCUSSION:

If approved by the City Commission and the Broward County Legislative Delegation, this application will culminate with the property being annexed into the City on September 15, 2016.  The attached map details the location of the property.  The applicant has also executed a water and wastewater agreement with the City, which will have an effective date concurrent with the effective date of the annexation.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this annexation.
