A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK’S 2023 STATE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek works with our State Lobbyist each year to create a State Legislative Agenda to be submitted to the Broward County Legislative Delegation, Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Broward League of Cities, Florida League of Cities, and Florida’s State Representatives. Please note that the highlighted yellow text in Exhibit A represents added, edited, or updated legislative information from the January 10, 2023, public workshop.

DISCUSSION:

Staff communicates with the City’s State Lobbyist, Ericks Consulting, throughout the year on issues of legislative importance to the City.  Based on these communications, a public workshop was held at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2023, to review the proposed State Legislative Agenda with the City Commission, Federal Lobbyists Jim Crum and Harry Glenn from Van Scoyoc Associates, State Lobbyists Candice Ericks and Lauren Jackson from Ericks Consulting, State Senator Tina Polsky, State Representative Christine Hunschofsky, and Theresa Brier, Deputy District Director for Congressman Jared Moskowitz.  Following feedback from the workshop, staff updated the document to include property insurance as a top priority for the City and to add both motor vehicle safety and affordable housing for special needs residents to the Legislative Watch List.  The attached proposed 2023 Coconut Creek State Legislative Agenda outlines the City’s state priorities for the upcoming year.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
