A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION’S EXPANSION PLAN TO ADD FOUR (4) NEW LANES TO THE WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD OVER A 5.5 MILE SEGMENT OF FLORIDA’S TURNPIKE/STATE ROAD 91 FROM ATLANTIC BOULEVARD TO WILES ROAD UNDER PROJECT NO. 442212-1.
body
BACKGROUND:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) intends to widen a 5.5 mile segment of Florida’s Turnpike/State Road 91 adjacent to Coconut Creek from Atlantic Boulevard to Wiles Road under Project No. 442212-1 by adding four (4) new lanes with all four (4) lanes to be constructed west of the centerline of the road (Westward Shift) directly adjacent to Coconut Creek, which will have a disproportionate negative impact on the adjacent communities, including, but not limited to increased noise, air pollution, traffic congestion, decreased light, and physical encroachment into the communities.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Coconut Creek is opposed to the Westward Shift and believes that it will have a detrimental effect on the property values and health of the residents impacted. The City desires to transmit a copy of this resolution to Governor Ron DeSantis, State Representative Christine Hunschofsky, State Senator Tina Polsky, Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue, Florida Department of Transportation General Counsel Rebekah Davis, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise Executive Director Nicola Liquori, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise Chief Counsel Mark Dlugokienski, and the Broward County Commission to advise them of same.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
