A RESOLUTION APPOINTING ONE (1) DELEGATE AND ONE (1) ALTERNATE DELEGATE TO REPRESENT THE CITY ON THE SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL AND RECYCLABLE MATERIALS PROCESSING AUTHORITY OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City has been participating in the Solid Waste Working Group for several years, during which time the group developed the governance structure for the recently established Solid Waste Disposal and Recyclable Materials Processing Authority of Broward County, Florida (Authority).

DISCUSSION:

The City previously approved Resolution No. 2023-090, which provided for membership in the Authority. The governance structure required a 75% population threshold in order for the Authority to be established, which has occurred. The next step is for the City to appoint delegates to the Governing Board of the Authority.  This resolution will appoint one (1) delegate and one (1) alternate.

Delegate responsibilities include:

                     Attend all meetings of the Authority Governing Board;

                     Vote on Authority business on behalf of their respective municipality;

                     Communicate Authority business/actions to their respective municipality; and

                     If selected by the Governing Board, the delegate would serve on the Executive Committee of the Governing Board and attend all meetings of the Executive Committee.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
