BACKGROUND:
The Recreation Complex opened its doors in 1994. This multi-use facility offers activities, classes, sports leagues, meeting rooms, a picnic area, indoor basketball courts, covered playground, splash pad, computer room, game room, and fitness center. The Recreation Complex is home to many of the City’s special events and children’s presentations, summer camp, and much more. The current facility is in need of a full renovation to meet the needs of the community and to continue offering first class programs and events.
DISCUSSION:
The City has budgeted for the design and engineering services to renovate the Recreation Complex Building as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program. The design will provide for more efficient lighting and plumbing fixtures, thus reducing energy and water consumption, as well as new sustainable building materials, which support the City’s Vision 2030 goal of having a sustainable environment. Lastly, the design will modernize the Recreation Complex, replacing the dated look with one that blends with the aesthetics that typify the standards found throughout the City.
Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. is a qualified firm on the City’s approved Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, and Urban Design Services list procured through RFQ No. 10-06-21-11 and has provided a proposal to perform the necessary design services in the amount of $182,160.00.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
