BACKGROUND:
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and GFOA's best practices on budgeting, and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 marks the 25th consecutive year that the City has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from GFOA. Additionally, the City received a special recognition for Strategic Goals and Strategies. Special recognition is given when all three (3) GFOA reviewers give the highest possible score in particular categories. This award demonstrates the continued efforts and commitment of the Finance and Administrative Services Department in producing a high-quality budget document that serves as a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan, and a communications device.
GFOA launched the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to help state and local governments exceed the basic requirements of accounting principles and produce annual comprehensive financial reports that promote transparency and full disclosure.
