BACKGROUND:

Each year, the Teen Political Forum (TPF) brings together students from Coconut Creek’s high schools to design and execute an interactive event for students to ask questions of elected officials. Participating students are selected by their principals and meet twice a month from October through April. The students coordinate the event, including developing the agenda, writing the script, creating marketing materials, and managing the event.

May 17, 2023, was the first in-person TPF event since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and more than 150 students attended. The panelists included: State Senator Tina Polsky, State Representative Christine Hunschofsky, Broward County School Board Member Nora Rupert, Broward County Commissioner Mark Bogen, Coconut Creek Mayor Joshua Rydell, Coconut Creek Vice Mayor Sandra Welch, and Coconut Creek Police Chief Albert “Butch” Arenal.  We thank them for their participation in this important event.

The City would like to recognize the efforts of the following partners for this year’s event:

                     The participating Teen Political Forum students;

                     Atlantic Technical Center (ATC) for providing technical and sound assistance, as well as receiving the annual TPF Trophy as the high school with the highest student participation;

                     Broward College for building a 24-foot stage for the event and provided seating for the students; and

                     Junior Achievement for providing the outstanding location and event management assistance.
