A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER, OR THEIR DESIGNEES, TO EXECUTE A RECIPROCAL USE AGREEMENT WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY, PROVIDING FOR RECIPROCAL USE OF CITY FACILITIES AND SCHOOL BOARD FACILITIES FOR A TERM OF FIVE (5) YEARS.
body
BACKGROUND:
Florida law provides that municipalities shall have governmental, corporate, and proprietary powers to conduct municipal functions, render services, and collaborate with other entities for the benefit of their communities. The City of Coconut Creek and the School Board of Broward County seek to jointly provide additional recreational services and spaces to its residents by sharing facilities.
DISCUSSION:
As part of its recreation program, the City of Coconut Creek desires to provide additional recreation facilities for its residents, and the School Board of Broward County desires to provide additional facilities for its programming. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department was able to showcase its Youth Theater Program by utilizing the Monarch High School theater stage for their June 6, 2025 performance and, through the use of this Reciprocal Use Agreement, will continue to benefit for future opportunities. As cities and schools may share resources to support each other’s goals and objectives, approval of this agreement would provide long-term benefits to the community through joint use of each other’s facilities and facilitate communication between the School Board of Broward County and the City.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
