BACKGROUND:

The City is committed to protecting its residents, visitors, and property, while creating a safe environment for all who live in, work in, or visit the Coconut Creek community. The purchase of these items will continue to enhance the high-quality workforce and ensure public safety.

DISCUSSION:

The attached memorandum from Chief of Police Frederick Hofer to City Manager Sheila Rose explains the request totaling $25,000 from the Federal Law Enforcement Trust Fund to assist with the costs associated with the purchase of a police service K-9 and all necessary equipment. Approximately $16,500 is allocated for the purchase of the K-9, $1,300 for the pre-employment physical examination, $2,000 for the bite suit, $1,000 for the first year of health insurance, and the rest of the funds will be used for all other necessary equipment.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
