BACKGROUND:
The Government Center grounds were constructed during the 1980's, and there have been no significant improvements made to them since that time. The City has grown significantly, and the existing parking is inadequate at times, especially during public meetings and events that are held at the Government Center. The City has budgeted for design and engineering services to renovate the Government Center courtyard and surrounding areas as part of the City's Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
DISCUSSION:
Miller Legg & Associates, Inc. is a qualified firm on the City's approved Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning and Urban Design Services list procured through RFQ No. 10-06-21-11 and has provided a proposal to perform the necessary initial design services in the amount of $129,960.00. This scope does not include final design at this time because there are several variables to be resolved during the initial design.
This design effort will focus on improving and modernizing the courtyard to make it more functional for hosting events, as well as reconfiguring the parking lot to provide additional spaces to increase parking capacity. Furthermore, the consultant will recommend improvements to enhance the breezeway, improve the adjacent drainage, and prominently display the Police Department entrance for improved access and visibility. Finally, plans will be created to modernize all signage on the property to include the design of new entranceway monument signs.
