BACKGROUND:

In 2013, the City Commission passed Resolution No. 2013-112 in support of Complete Streets Guidelines to allow all modes of transportation, including bikers, walkers, transit riders, and drivers to safely navigate our roadways. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) annually reviews Complete Streets and other Localized Initiatives Program (CSLIP) applications for roadway improvements. The Broward MPO awarded the FDOT approximately two million, seven hundred and sixty nine thousand dollars ($2,769,000.00) to fund the construction of a Complete Streets project on Copans Road between SR7/441 to approximately the driveway of the City's Public Works Building on Copans Road.

The project aids in improving mobility with the design and construction of a 10-foot wide concrete shared use pathway, along with improvements to the existing Broward County Transit designated bus stops. The overall project extends into both the City of Margate and the City of Coconut Creek and has an overall length of 1.069 miles. The project length within the City of Coconut Creek is 0.40 miles. This funding is earmarked for the construction of all the hardscape elements to include the paving, pavement markings, shared use pathway, transit amenities, modifications to the existing roadway drainage where needed, along with the required signage for the project.

This FDOT project is located within the existing Copans Road right-of-way and is funded for FY 2022. Moreover, this project is being planned, designed, and constructed in harmony with other Broward County improvement projects proposed within Copans Road. Scheduled for construction in 2021, ...
