BACKGROUND:
The City of Coconut Creek's public transportation program, partially funded by Broward County, currently makes nineteen (19) passenger trips per day on average. This transportation program offers a North and a South Bus Route, which provide a wide range of trip purposes that include: medical, nutrition, shopping, social service, training, employment, social and recreation. All five (5) Broward County-provided buses are equipped for wheelchair service. In order to provide such services, the City relies heavily on federal funds distributed by the Federal Department of Transportation to Broward County, and then to the City as a sub-recipient.
DISCUSSION:
In November of 2018, Coconut Creek adopted its first Title VI Program as part of Broward County's requirements to be part of their Shuttle Bus Program and receive federal funding. The City's Community Transportation Title VI Program, developed by City staff in collaboration with Broward County's Transportation Department, details the City's public transportation program and the efforts to make the program accessible to all users equally. In order to continue receiving the funds, participating cities must adopt, no later than November 2022, an FDOT-State Management Plan - Title VI Program ("Title VI Program") to ensure compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
