BACKGROUND:

The City is committed to creating a safe environment for its residents and visitors, as well as protecting their property interests. The City is also committed to retaining a high-quality workforce and ensuring public safety by using the most current law enforcement technologies and best practices. The Chief of Police is requesting the use of Law Enforcement Trust Funds (LETF) to advance these commitments to public safety.

DISCUSSION:

The City was awarded One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Drone Replacement Program Grant to purchase four (4) Skydio drones through Axon, which grant agreement is also on this agenda for Commission consideration. To fully implement the drone program, staff is requesting One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) to cover the software, support, and warranty services associated with the drones over a five (5) year period.  The attached memorandum from Chief of Police Frederick Hofer to City Manager Sheila Rose, explains the request to purchase the Skydio Drone subscription, totaling One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) from the Federal Forfeiture Justice Fund.

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
