A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF PATTERNED PAVEMENT CROSSWALKS ALONG VARIOUS INTERSECTIONS OF LYONS ROAD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LYONS ROAD MOBILITY PROJECT.

body

BACKGROUND:

As part of the Lyons Road Mobility Project, the City has requested that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) perform additional work to include patterned pavement crosswalks at all signalized crosswalks along Lyons Road from Atlantic Boulevard to the Sawgrass Expressway.  Five of these signalized crosswalks are within Broward County right-of-way.

DISCUSSION:

Broward County has agreed to these enhanced crosswalks within their right-of-way, but is requiring that the City agree to the ongoing maintenance of these areas.  This agreement assigns the maintenance responsibility to the City upon completion of the project.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.

FISCAL IMPACT:

REVENUES:                       N/A

EXPENDITURES:                       TBD

BUDGETED:                      Budgeting is proposed for FY 2027.

NOTES:  The cost of construction of the crosswalks was approved via Resolution No. 2019-009.  Maintenance expenditures are not projected to be required prior to FY 2027. Actual maintenance costs and frequency will be based on the overall performance of the pavement materials and the daily use associated with the average daily vehicle traffic assigned to the Lyons Road corridor.  The maintenance timeframe is based on estimates where other cities used similar products constructed in South Florida with like conditions.
