BACKGROUND:

The Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officials, Inc. (“FAPPO”) has recognized the City of Coconut Creek with the Award for Excellence in Public Procurement.  This honor recognizes Florida entities that meet or exceed benchmarks in the field of Public Procurement. This is the first year that the Purchasing and Contracts Division has applied for this award.

This annual award program consists of several criteria updated annually to reflect the current industry benchmarks and best practices and encourages members to keep improving within their organization/agency. The application for 2020 contained seven criteria from source selection, to continual process improvement, to automation and electronic commerce. Evaluating procurement practices on a consistent basis ensures that the City adheres to best practices and utilizes innovations resulting in greater efficiency.

With over 850 procurement professionals representing over 300 agencies throughout the State of Florida, FAPPO is comprised of many different types of local government agencies to include municipalities, counties, state agencies, special districts, universities, school boards, and sheriff offices.  The organization’s purpose is to promote the achievement of excellence in public procurement and professional development through education, certification, and networking of its membership.

This year, 18 entities were awarded under the program. Typically, awardees are recognized at the annual spring conference; however, it has been cancelled this year due to the pandemic.
