BACKGROUND:
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy on February 14, 2018, greatly impacted the South Florida community, including the City of Coconut Creek. Since that time, the City has supported the Parkland community in a variety of ways, from advocating for tighter gun control to hosting an annual remembrance ceremony and proclamation.
In an effort to drive positive change with a broader community impact, last year’s Day of Service and Love Proclamation introduced a citywide employee volunteer initiative to encourage and celebrate employee volunteer hours throughout the year. This ongoing initiative serves as a way to recognize the efforts of the City and its employees to give back to the community, honoring those impacted by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas tragedy.
