body
BACKGROUND:
The City applied for and was awarded the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) from FDLE in the amount of $8,801. The grant will be used to purchase the necessary equipment to outfit the Bicycle Patrol Services (BPS) unit with items such as bicycles, patrol lights, trailer hitches, locking devices, patrol bike repair stands, floor pumps, helmets, gloves, water bottles, and seat covers.
DISCUSSION:
In order to support and expand the Coconut Creek Police Department’s (CCPD) mission of community policing and community relations, the CCPD will utilize the grant funds to purchase professional bicycles, patrol equipment, and protective gear to outfit the dedicated BPS unit. BPS will supplement the patrol function and will also present more opportunities for officers to get up close and personal with the community, thus building a stronger, friendlier bond.
