BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek’s public transportation program, partially funded by Broward County, currently makes twenty-three (23) passenger trips per day on average. This transportation program offers a North and a South Bus Route, which provide a wide range of trip purposes that include: medical, nutrition, shopping, social service, training, employment, social and recreation.  All six (6) shuttle buses are equipped for wheelchair service. In order to provide such services, the City relies heavily on federal funds distributed by the Federal Department of Transportation to Broward County, and then to the City as a sub-recipient.

DISCUSSION:

Recently, Broward County made all of the cities receiving federal funds in the County aware that in order to continue receiving the funds, each must adopt, no later than November 2018, an FDOT-State Management Plan - Title VI Program (“Title VI Program”) to ensure compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  City staff, with the help of Broward County’s Transportation Department, put together the City’s Community Transportation Title VI Program that details the City’s public transportation program and the City’s efforts to make same accessible to all users equally.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
