A RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF SOLID WASTE IN THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK; ESTABLISHING THE RATE OF ASSESSMENT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2025; RE-IMPOSING SOLID WASTE SERVICES ASSESSMENT AGAINST ASSESSED PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY; AND APPROVING THE ASSESSMENT ROLL. body

BACKGROUND:

The Solid Waste Services Assessment Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2000-28) provides for an annual assessment against single-family residences for solid waste collection and disposal services, facilities, and programs.

DISCUSSION:

This resolution sets the solid waste services assessment rate for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025, as $312.48; imposes the assessment against certain properties within the City of Coconut Creek; and approves the assessment roll provided by the Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office. This represents an approximate eight point eight seven percent (8.87%) decrease from the current annual rate of $342.89. This reduction is mainly due to the discontinuation of cleaning and sanitizing the solid waste bin twice a year.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The solid waste assessment will generate approximately $2,577,304 in net revenues, of which $2,185,364 is passed through to Republic Services, the City’s solid waste hauler. The City will retain approximately $391,940 in solid waste franchise fees (Account 01-V32370).
