BACKGROUND:

This item passed on First Reading at the June 10, 2021, City Commission Meeting.

The City of Coconut Creek Code of Ordinance includes the Fire Administration Department under the list of City Departments. The City of Coconut Creek is currently establishing the Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Department to begin fire and emergency medical services.

DISCUSSION:

This ordinance will change the Department name from Fire Administration to Fire Rescue Department to reflect the addition of fire and emergency services. This ordinance also adds the authority and duties of the Fire Chief and amends the City’s prohibition on campaign activities to include the appropriate fire personnel and to rename deputy or assistant references as deputy/assistant to ensure uniform application of the prohibition.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this ordinance.
