body
BACKGROUND:
Pursuant to Section 904 of the City's Charter, "The Commission shall appoint a City Attorney and the City Attorney shall appoint such Assistant City Attorneys as he/she deems necessary subject to final approval by the City Commission."
DISCUSSION:
The City posted the position of full-time, in-house Assistant City Attorney on May 20, 2024, and advertised until June 17, 2024. In-person interviews were held on July 10 and 11, 2024, with an interview panel consisting of Terrill Pyburn, City Attorney; Sanjeev Bissessar, Risk Manager; Scott Stoudenmire, Deputy City Manager; Joseph J. Kavanagh, City Clerk; Jeannette Camacho; Police Legal Advisor; Kathy Mehaffey, Deputy City Attorney; and Randall Blanchette, PE, Assistant Director of Utilities and Engineering. All interviewers were impressed with Cassie Harvey, and she comes to us with glowing recommendations from her prior employers. Ms. Harvey obtained her law degree (Juris Doctor) from St. Thomas University School of Law, her two (2) Master of Science degrees from Nova Southeastern University, and her undergraduate degree from Florida International University. Prior to her application for Assistant City Attorney for the City of Coconut Creek, Ms. Harvey was an Assistant State Attorney in Broward County. She also worked for the private law firm of Klausner, Kaufman, Jenson, & Levinson for four (4) years prior wherein she advised police and fire pension boards throughout the State of Florida, and she also served as a Police Legal Advisor Intern for the Miami-Dade Police Department. If approved by the City Commission, Ms. Harvey will begin employment with the City of Coconut Creek on August 26, 2024.
