BACKGROUND:

 

The Village of Hope is a non-profit organization based in Tuskegee, Alabama. It’s mission is to assist underprivileged children in the Tuskegee area. The Amelia Boynton Robinson Legacy Award recognizes several members of law enforcement annually for their exemplary acts of courage and meritorious valor. Amelia Boynton Robinson was a renowned civil rights leader in Alabama who passed away in 2015 at the age of 104. The Village of Hope board members voted to honor Officer Michael Leonard for his bravery in apprehending the shooter charged with killing 17 people and wounding seven others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018. Chairman of Board for the Village of Hope, Leon Frazier, will be coming from Tuskegee, Alabama to present the award.
