A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY’S REQUEST FOR FEDERAL COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING FOR THE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER (EOC) AND COMMUNITY STAGING AREA PROJECT, WHICH SUPPORTS THE CITY’S STRATEGIC GOALS OF SAFETY AND QUALITY OF LIFE AND HIGH PERFORMANCE GOVERNMENT.

body

BACKGROUND:

Congressman Jared Moskowitz, 23rd Congressional District, has the opportunity to support twenty (20) applications for Community Project Funding in 2026.  The City of Coconut Creek is submitting an application for consideration for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Community Staging Area Project.

DISCUSSION:

The EOC and Community Staging Area Project will expand and reconfigure the City Hall campus and significantly improve the City’s ability to operate a safe and efficient Community Staging Area following a disaster. The ability to support organized drive-through distribution of critical supplies, such as water, tarps, ice, and medical resources is an essential component of effective disaster response. The planned improvements to traffic circulation, site layout, and operational space will directly enhance public safety and operational efficiency during emergency events.

Staff will be submitting project documentation and letters of support along with the application to Congressman Moskowitz for this project, which will be shared upon acceptance of the submission package.  A resolution of support from the City Commission is encouraged as a part of the application process.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
