A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED CLINICAL AFFILIATION AGREEMENTS WITH THE CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS D/B/A CORAL SPRINGS REGIONAL INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND THE EMERGENCY EDUCATION INSTITUTE, LLC TO PROVIDE THEIR STUDENTS WITH A COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE WITHIN A FIRE-RESCUE SETTING DURING EMERGENCY AND NON-EMERGENCY RESPONSES.

body

BACKGROUND:

The Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Department wishes to provide students, of select learning institutions, with a comprehensive learning experience during emergency and non-emergency EMS and fire responses. Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety (CSRIPS) and Emergency Education Institute, LLC (EEI) will allow Coconut Creek Fire Rescue employees to serve as field preceptors while their students gain the required practical experience during their educational experience for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P) programs.

DISCUSSION:

Coconut Creek Fire Rescue currently provides field training to all new employees upon employment with the Department. Once fully staffed and trained, Coconut Creek Fire Rescue wishes to offer select training institutions the opportunity to have their students participate in the required practical education experience before they graduate. The students will be assigned to a previously-approved City of Coconut Creek employee, who will act as their preceptor. During emergency and non-emergency responses, the students will be allowed to interact with patients under strict guidelines in accordance with the attached Clinical Affiliation Agreements, while accompanied by the preceptor.
