body
BACKGROUND:
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has an open application cycle from February 16 through February 27, 2015 for the 2014-2015 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Program.  The Program provides grant funding up to $200,000 for development projects that use public land for outdoor recreational use and requires a 1:1 match.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to providing adequate recreational opportunities for its residents and expanding, upgrading, and maintaining infrastructure.   As part of these strategic initiatives, the City is desirous of redeveloping and expanding Windmill Park, located at 700 Lyons Road between Atlantic Boulevard and Coconut Creek Parkway.  The park was originally constructed in 1990 and includes various amenities such as basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, playground, and a dog park.  The City recently purchased a two-acre parcel adjacent to the park, which will be included in the expansion project.  Proposed amenities may include an additional basketball court, lighted concrete paths, pavilions, exercise stations, additional parking and restrooms, and landscape improvements.  The final plan will be developed following public meetings and comment.
