A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE 2012 INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE SHERIFF OF BROWARD COUNTY FOR THE DELIVERY OF FIRE PROTECTION AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES BY THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK TO THE UNINCORPORATED AREA KNOWN AS HILLSBORO PINES AND HILLSBORO RANCHES.

body

BACKGROUND:

In 2012, the City of Coconut Creek and the Sheriff of Broward County (BSO) entered into an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) for the delivery of fire protection and emergency medical services by the City of Coconut Creek to the unincorporated areas of Hillsboro Pines and Hillsboro Ranches (“Exhibit B”).  This agreement is scheduled to terminate on September 30, 2015, and provides for four (4) annual, automatic, one-year renewals.

DISCUSSION:

Both BSO and the City of Coconut Creek are desirous of renewing this ILA.   Because the 2012 ILA referenced the City’s 2010 outdated contract with the City of Margate for Fire and EMS services, which has since been updated and extended, this ILA is amended to reference the most recent agreement between the City of Coconut Creek and the City of Margate (“Exhibit A”).

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends execution of this ILA.
