body

BACKGROUND:

Following a request by the Board of County Commissioners that the Broward County Office of the County Auditor conduct an audit of the overall operation of the Broward County Shelter, the Office of the County Auditor conducted an audit; and on December 16, 2020, issued its Audit Report (Exhibit “A”).  Among other things, the Audit Report found that the operation of the Shelter does not consistently adhere to best practices and laws, and that the programs and processes utilized at the Broward County Shelter are not operating effectively.

DISCUSSION:

The City Commission of the City of Coconut Creek is concerned that the Broward County Shelter, due to the operational failures identified in the Audit Report, fails to provide adequate care for dogs and cats.  The City Commission finds and determines that it is in the best interest of its residents, business owners, and visitors to support the Broward County Audit of the Animal Care and Adoption Division dated December 16, 2020, and to support that all of the recommendations contained in the Audit Report be immediately implemented and adhered to by the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division.

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
