A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY'S REQUESTS FOR COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING FOR A REDUNDANT FIBER OPTIC RING AND THE ADVANCED METERING INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT, WHICH SUPPORT THE CITY'S STRATEGIC GOALS OF SAFETY AND QUALITY OF LIFE AND HIGH PERFORMANCE GOVERNMENT.

body
BACKGROUND:
Congressman Jared Moskowitz, 23rd Congressional District, has the opportunity to support fifteen (15) applications for federal Community Project Funding in 2025. The City of Coconut Creek is submitting two (2) applications for consideration - (1) Redundant Fiber Optic Ring, and (2) Advanced Metering Infrastructure.
DISCUSSION:
The Redundant Fiber Optic Ring will ensure continuity of operations and services during disasters and emergencies. It will provide resilience and redundancy on the current fiber, which connects several City facilities and also connects to the City of Coral Springs Dispatch. The proposed Redundant Fiber Optic Ring will connect the City's Government Center Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to Fire Station #113, closing the fiber optic loop, and providing redundancy for these emergency services and operations. If the fiber is accidently damaged by fiber cuts, equipment failure, or malicious attacks, communication will be redirected through the ring to the data center and quickly repaired.
The Automatic Metering Infrastructure project will close a funding gap that would allow the City's water services to upgrade its metering infrastructure technology. This upgrade will enable the City to proactively monitor and address leaks, reducing water loss and mitigating financial impacts for residents of both the City of Coconut Creek and the City of Parkland. It will also provide greater transparency to residents, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiencies.
Staff will be submitting letters of support and documentation to Congressman Moskowitz for these two (2) projects. A resolution of support from the Commission is encouraged ...
