A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE USE OF FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($165,000) FOR THE PURCHASE OF A 2023 FORD TRANSIT T350 HIGH ROAD DUAL REAR WHEEL VAN SWAT VEHICLE AND THE USE OF STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000) TO PROVIDE A DONATION TO THE POLICE EXPLORER POST; AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE CONTROLLED EQUIPMENT APPROVAL REQUEST FORM FOR THE EQUITABLE SHARING PROGRAM FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE SWAT VEHICLE.

BACKGROUND:
The City is committed to protecting its residents and visitors, and to the protection of property, while creating a safe environment for all who live in, work in, or visit our community. The City is also committed to retaining a high-quality workforce and ensuring public safety. The Police Chief is requesting the use of Law Enforcement Trust Funds (LETF) to advance these commitments to public safety.
DISCUSSION:
Please see the attached memos from Police Chief Arenal to City Manager Karen Brooks, explaining the request to purchase a new SWAT vehicle in the amount of One Hundred Sixty-Five Thousand Dollars ($165,000) and to provide a donation to the Police Explorer Post in the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000). The donation to the Explorer Post will assist with training and purchasing new equipment and uniforms.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.

NOTES: There is $332,120.44 available in the Federal Law Enforcement Trust Fund of Justice Account #6261 to cover the purchase of the SWAT vehicle and $88,328.88 available in the State law Enforcement Trust Fund Account #6361 for the donation.
