A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (FDOT) FISCAL YEAR 2026 (FY26) OCCUPANT PROTECTION AND CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($40,000); AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT WITH FDOT FOR SEAT BELT AND CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY EDUCATION AND ENFORCEMENT.

BACKGROUND:
The City applied for and was awarded subgrant funding from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the FY26 Occupant Protection and Child Passenger Safety Grant in the amount of $40,000.
DISCUSSION:
In alignment with the City’s commitment to public safety, the awarded grant funding will be used towards the City’s campaign to educate the public on the importance of proper seat belt and child safety seat use. The grant will offset incurred overtime, allowing the Coconut Creek Police Department to participate in the annual “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign by conducting seat belt and child safety seat inspections and community education activities.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
