TITLE:

title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED LAW ENFORCEMENT MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT FOR THE CITY’S PARTICIPATION IN THE SOUTH FLORIDA CRIMINAL APPREHENSION TEAM WITH OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES.

body

BACKGROUND:

The “Florida Mutual Aid Act,” contained in Part I, Chapter 23, of the Florida State Statutes, permits law enforcement agencies to provide voluntary cooperation and assistance of a routine law enforcement nature across jurisdictional boundaries by entering into a mutual aid agreement.

DISCUSSION:

The City had previously entered into the Burglary Apprehension Task Force Mutual Aid Agreement approved by Resolution No. 2023-080, which expires at the end of this year. The attached South Florida Criminal Apprehension Team Mutual Aid Agreement replaces the expiring Burglary Apprehension Task Force Mutual Aid Agreement, and allows the Coconut Creek Police Department to receive and extend mutual aid for burglary offenses, organized retail crimes, auto thefts, and any felony or misdemeanor related crimes across jurisdictional boundaries occurring in South Florida. The term of the agreement shall take effect upon execution and approval of the agreement and will be in effect for one (1) year.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
