BACKGROUND:
The Fleet Services Building (facility) was constructed in the late 1980's and is in need of rehabilitation to strengthen and harden the building against natural disasters and strong storm events such as tropical storms and hurricanes. The facility houses the Public Works' shops, tools, and equipment and services the City's police, fire, paramedic, maintenance, and administrative vehicle fleet, which provide emergency services to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Coconut Creek. Rehabilitation of the Fleet Services Building allows for the continuation of services in normal day-to-day operations, as well as during and after an emergency or natural disaster, and thereby impacts the entire community. Loss of this building would significantly impact Public Works' ability to complete routine maintenance and respond to emergencies. Currently, the building has issues with roof leaks and aging components like the overhead doors that are at the end of their useful lifecycle.
DISCUSSION:
The City has budgeted for the design and engineering services to renovate the Fleet Services Building as part of the City's Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The vehicle repairs and services that take place within the building include routine and emergency vehicle and tool maintenance for police vehicles, fire and paramedic apparatus, heavy equipment, transit system buses, as well as building and utility inspectors, public works, parks and recreation, and other City-maintained vehicles and equipment.
