A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SAWGRASS VILLAGE I HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION, INC. APPLICATION FOR MATCHING FUNDS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD ENHANCEMENT GRANT PROGRAM FOR PHASE II OF THE MULTI-PHASE LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND INSTALLATION PROJECT.

body

BACKGROUND:

The applicant, Sawgrass Village I Homeowners Association, is requesting $13,944.52 in matching grant funds from the Neighborhood Enhancement Grant (NEG) Program for Phase II of their multi-phase landscape design and installation project.  The NEG Program is designed to provide funding assistance for projects that promote a stronger, safer, and more sustainable community. The proposed project seeks to enhance the sustainability of the residential community. The Sawgrass Village I community is located on the south side of Copans Road, east of Lyons Road. Access to the community is from NW 44 Avenue.

DISCUSSION:

The City is committed to enhancing community aesthetics and promoting a stronger, safer, and more sustainable community; this grant project furthers this strategic initiative.  The Sawgrass Village I original street tree design material was no longer compatible with surrounding areas due to their size and growth habit.  In 2020, the applicant applied for the NEG Program for Phase I of a multi-phase project to re-design the Sawgrass Village I Street Tree Plan, which was reviewed and approved by the City’s Urban Forester and Senior Planner. Subsequently, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2020-071 on April 23, 2020, which approved the Phase I NEG application for Sawgrass Village I. The Phase I component of the project for the re-design was completed in FY20, and the project cost totaled $5,200.

Phase II of the multi-phase project provides for the removal and replacement of street trees, utilizing the new street tree plan. Specifically, Phase II will remove 25 existing street trees and will install 21 new street trees within the Sawgrass Village Community. The City anticipates receiving the Phase III application, which continues the street tree removal and installation, in FY22.  The NEG Program has a $65,000 budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021. To date, $51,055.48 has been awarded through the program. Sawgrass Village I Homeowners Association would be the seventh and final NEG of FY 2021.This grant project is a further enhancement of the community and satisfies the standards established by the NEG Program.
