A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE VISION 2030 STRATEGIC VISION.

body

BACKGROUND:

In 2010, the City adopted Vision 2020, a long-term vision for the City.  Vision 2020 outlined broad strategic initiatives that were developed with extensive community input.  In 2019, with the support of the City Commission, staff began the process for long-term planning for Vision 2030.  Staff solicited three quotes, and after reviewing the proposals and conducting reference checks, SBrand Solutions was awarded the contract.

DISCUSSION:

SBrand Solutions began working with staff in late 2019 to gather input for Vision 2030.  An Advisory Group comprised of key community members was formed and met once; our consultant conducted interviews with City Commissioners and key community members; staff members provided feedback; a community survey was implemented; and our consultant participated in the Butterfly Festival Business Expo and a Chamber of Commerce meeting to begin gathering community feedback.  The Vision 2030 process was temporarily halted with the onset of the Covid Pandemic; however, we were able to resume the process virtually in the fall of 2020.  Since November 2020, three Advisory Group meetings, two community meetings, one City Administrative Officers meeting, one City Commission Meeting, and weekly staff meetings with several key staff members and our consultant were held virtually.  Initial Commission interviews were updated, new interviews were conducted, the community survey was re-introduced to the community, and social media was utilized to gather daily feedback from our community.

The document contains a new Vision Statement, Mission Statement, updated core values, and five new Areas of Focus with Strategic Goals and Outcomes to guide the City for the next ten years.  Vision 2030 reflects the extensive community outreach conducted over the past two years, and will align with and guide the City’s long-term planning and budget processes.
