A RESOLUTION APPOINTING FIVE (5) REGULAR MEMBERS AND ONE (1) ALTERNATE MEMBER TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD FOR A TERM ENDING WITH THE NEXT APPOINTMENT IN 2027.

BACKGROUND:

In accordance with Section 2-208 of the City’s Code of Ordinances, each member of the City Commission shall nominate one (1) person to fill each position of membership on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  The Mayor will nominate one (1) person to fill the alternate position. A majority of the City Commission shall approve the nominations. These appointments shall be for a term ending with the next appointment in 2027. 

Pursuant to Section 2-191 of the City’s Code of Ordinances, all voting board members must be at least eighteen (18) years old and 1) a resident of the City; or 2) the owner of a business with a physical location within the City and a business tax receipt issued by the City for operation at that City location.

Section 2-208(c) of the City’s Code of Ordinances provides that in appointing members to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board the following shall, to the extent practicable, be considered:

(1) Full-time City residency;

(2) Experience in any of the following fields: Fitness, health, athletics, recreation, parks, special event planning, landscape architecture, biology, climate change, education, engineering, environmental science, forestry, gardening, geology, horticulture, sustainability, or urban planning;

(3) Current or prior engagement in one (1) or more parks and recreation activity, such as community athletic leagues, community center recreation programs, park programs, special events, volunteer activities, or fitness membership;

(4) Expressed interest in recreation, athletics, fitness, parks and special events with an articulated understanding of the value of those activities; or

(5) Alternatively, demonstration of a strong and sincere commitment to the intent set forth in this section or possession of an outstanding reputation for civic activity and interest, integrity, and responsibility with preference to applicants who have completed Coconut Creek Citizen's Academy.
