BACKGROUND:

The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact (the “Compact”) is a partnership between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties to work collaboratively to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions, implement adaptation strategies, and build climate resilience across the Southeast Florida region. The Compact relies on the support of the municipalities and counties within the four-county area that comprises the Compact. Coconut Creek has always been an active partner with the Compact and recognizes a need to pledge public support of the Compact in its advancement of strategic adaptation and mitigation planning.

DISCUSSION:

Coconut Creek acknowledges that there is power in the collective action of counties, municipalities, and tribal governments in jointly developing, advancing, and advocating for mutually-beneficial regional, state, and national climate and energy strategies, policies, regulations, and agreements that are consequential to Southeast Florida’s shared resilience and prosperity. This resolution outlines the City’s pledge to jointly advance strategic climate adaptation and mitigation planning, programs, policies, and projects and to support the implementation of the Regional Climate Action Plan (RCAP 3.0) through integrating its recommendations and strategies into existing and future relevant planning, program, policy, and project development, as appropriate. The City of Coconut Creek also pledges to utilize and integrate tools and resources developed by the Compact, as appropriate, in climate action planning and implementation.
