A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE TRADEWINDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL APPLICATION FOR MATCHING GRANT FUNDS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD ENHANCEMENT GRANT PROGRAM FOR SIGN ENHANCEMENTS.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek is committed to enhancing community aesthetics and promoting a stronger, safer, and more sustainable community by providing funding assistance through the Neighborhood Enhancement Grant (NEG) Program.

DISCUSSION:

For Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25), the NEG Program has allocated a budget of $195,000 to fund neighborhood improvement projects. Tradewinds Elementary School has submitted a request for $5,000.00 in matching grant funds from the NEG Program to enhance signage for a total project cost of $33,820.00. The program guidelines provide a maximum reimbursement of $5,000.00 for sign projects.

The Tradewinds Elementary School NEG Sign Project aligns with the criteria outlined in the program guidelines. Eligible applicants for the program include Neighborhood Associations, Homeowners Associations, Schools, and Nonprofit Organizations. The Tradewinds Elementary School application marks only the second school application in the history of the NEG Program. Previously, in 2015, Broward College utilized the grant to complete a Landscape Enhancement Project.

The proposed signage enhancements at Tradewinds Elementary School have been reviewed by City staff and comply with the City’s Sign Code. Furthermore, the applicant has committed to obtaining and completing a City Building Permit, despite such a review not being required for school property.

The Tradewinds Elementary School application is the second NEG request of FY25. The proposed grant project is a further enhancement of the community and satisfies the standards established by the NEG Program.
