A RESOLUTION APPOINTING ONE (1) REGULAR MEMBER TO THE CIVIL SERVICE BOARD TO FILL THE REMAINDER OF THE VACATED TERM ENDING WITH THE NEXT APPOINTMENT IN APRIL 2027.

BACKGROUND:

On April 24, 2025, the City Commission appointed two (2) regular members and one (1) alternate member to the Civil Service Board, each for a two (2) year term, via Resolution No. 2025-043 in accordance with Section 21-2.1 of the Code of Ordinances.

On April 23, 2026, Regular Board Member Troy Gras was appointed to the Planning & Zoning Board as an Alternate Member for a one (1) year term via Resolution No. 2026-054, creating a vacancy on the Civil Service Board.

In accordance with Section 501 of the City’s Charter and Section 21-2.1.6 of the City’s Code, any unexpired term vacancy shall be filled by the electing or appointing authority, which, in this case, Mr. Gras was appointed by the City Commission.

Civil Service Board members appointed by the City Commission are required to be residents of the City of Coconut Creek and shall not be employees of the City. The length of term of the member filling a vacancy shall be the remainder of the original member's term.

DISCUSSION:

 

This resolution provides for the filling of the remainder of Mr. Gras’ term, which will expire on the date of the second regularly-scheduled Commission Meeting in April 2027.

 

Currently serving on the Board are: Nik Anderson (Employee-elected Regular Member), Cindy Brief (City Manager-appointed Regular Member), Enrique Castro (Employee-elected Alternate Member), Valencia Massey (Employee-elected Regular Member), Laura McDermott Matheric (Commission-appointed Alternate), and Alene Smith (Commission-appointed Regular Member).
